Crispy Sweet Potato Fries

I love fries!  Who doesn’t?

There’s nothing quite like a burger and fries to remind me I’m an American from the Midwest 🙂  I don’t know if its been the cold Northern Iowan temperatures or just that I really love them, but lately I’ve been craving a nice crispy fry.

In an attempt to be healthy, I try to avoid fries whenever I can, ordering a salad as a substitute and not making them at home unless I absolutely can’t avoid the temptation.  However, too many times the thought of putting one of those crispy, greasy strips of potato in my mouth becomes too much, and I must have them!

Luckily, I’ve found a great alternative to help to satiate my craving – Sweet Potatoes!  I LOVE sweet potatoes, especially with brown sugar and cinnamon so I thought, why not try baking a healthier version of fries with that same idea?  That’s where this creation came from – Crispy Sweet Potato Fries.  They are quick, easy, and sensational 🙂

Here is what you’ll need on your grocery list:

**This recipe will make enough to serve 4**

1 large or 2 small Sweet Potatoes

2 Egg Whites

1/4 tsp Cinnamon

1/4 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Panko Bread Crumbs (this is just enough, meaning I have nothing left when I’m done dredging the fries in the breadcrumbs…you could use 3/4 cup if you need to but I try not to coat any fry too much to cut down on calories)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Remove the skin from your sweet potato(es).  In this picture I have one large sweet potato, but many times I use two small.


Cut potato(es) into french-fry shaped spears.


Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.  Using a shallow bowl, its best if you use bowls that have a wide enough opening at the top so you can lay fries flat into each mixture…like the bowl pictured below.


Whisk together two egg whites with the cinnamon and salt.


Fill another bowl with the breadcrumbs.  Dip each fry into the egg mixture and then dredge each fry in the breadcrumbs.  Place each fry on the baking sheet.


Bake for 30 minutes.

When you take them out of the oven, you’ll have a hard time not sneaking one before you serve them to everyone else.  They look and smell absolutely sinful.


These are a huge hit at my house.  T.J. and Mike love them, and I don’t have to feel guilty about serving them to my family or myself.
